Editing

Hello everybody!

I know I haven't blogged in ages, but finally the time has come for me to edit my nanowrimo project, The First Time, and so I thought it would be great to touch base again! The lovely @LilahLangdon has helped me with my first draft (written in a crazy rush during November) and it is really wonderful to read her comments- it makes editing a breeze!

Not much has happened in my writer verse since I posted here last. Because of my new work and the PhD things have been a bit manic and without the motivation of Nanowrimo, sitting down to write has been much harder than expected. Lilah encouraged me to submit something for one of the Sinful Sundays a few weeks ago (and I promptly became runner up); but apart from that the only writing I have done has been for my thesis.

I am hoping to have the book edited by next Tuesday and then it will just be about sorting out the formatting and putting it up on Smashwords! Fingers crossed people will read it eventually!

Winning Nanowrimo!

And here endeth the month of November: One day early and 51,118 words richer.

Nano has been an amazing experience and I feel absolutely elated after actually finishing a whole book. Thank god it's over though- I don't think I could have done it for more than four weeks!

Here are my stats:

It's really interesting to see how my productivity spiked and I then allowed myself some rest- in regular intervals :-)

Tomorrow I am going to upload bits of it to smashwords and will also start editing.

A big thanks to everyone who helped me along the way!

Exciting pictures!

I thought I'd post a few more nano-related pictures. I am sorry to say that they are all list- or alcohol and/ or food-based but I guess in the end that is what Nano is about... :-)

This is today!

My chapters up up to now...

More badges!

Believe it or not, but I have just won the Sinful Sunday flashfiction competition again! I am super excited! You can find all of the entries here.

This time, the judge said: 'This story had fabulous tension and an attention to detail that made it steamy hot. I like that their relationship is both established and evolving.'

I love writing short pieces because they make you think about every little word. I wish Nano was like that, too!

In other news and on the Nano front I have cracked 2k today, so I now have another 2k 'spare' in case I will have to take a day off some time in the future. All in all, a pretty good writing day I would say!

Nano Stats

If you have not yet had a look at my NaNo page, this is what I have been busy with in the last 10 days:

'This is the story of Rose and all of the sexual firsts in her life. Growing up in a small town in Devon, England, she discovers sex at 16 and doesn't look back. Moving from her first kiss through BDSM and other fantasies, we follow her life as it unfolds through the power of her senses.'

Have a look at my NaNo chapters so far:

In the beginning, I had planned to write 1,6k on each chapter to have one chapter a day, but somehow it's not really turning out that way! I still haven't finished chapter 5 (mainly concerned with the new boyfriend going down on our heroine!) and I have got the feeling that the next one is going to be even longer.

On the topic, here is my NaNo word graph until now:

I have been going pretty steadily and I am pretty proud that I have been able to keep it up every day :-) Fingers crossed it's going to continue that way!

NaNoWriMo: Week two

After ten days of NanoWriMo I am gobsmacked that I am still sane enough to sit down write a (short) blogpost! I feel like I am reading and writing instead of breathing by now and I actually dream about words coming out of my hands.

At the moment I am only around 1k words ahead of the curve, but at least I am not behind! Writing in advance has been a nightmare, but I am trying to have 2000 new words by the time I go to bed every day.

Yesterday was also an exciting day because I went to Leeds to meet the other lovely people from the #nanoyorks group. All together we are currently the 21st most successful nano group in the world, so it is pretty amazing to have other passionate contenders so close by!

Here's to the next 20 days!!

The NanoWriMo experience

Day four of NaNoWriMo. I am doing alright (on target with 6760 words) but things are getting a bit tricky because I still don't have a decent internet connection at home. Updating my score via my mobile is pretty boring! Hopefully my router should finally arrive tomorrow and I will return to being the social network fient I was a few days ago!

Although making sure that I have 1667 new words has been pretty tough, it actually makes me write, which is great. I am a word count fetishist, so making sure I have got the numbers is running in my blood anyway! In a way, I feel like I might be cheating a tiny bit because my PhD schedule is still pretty flexible and I can actually write either in the morning or the evening- I haven't had one evening yet where I sat there at 9pm without having done my words for the day. Let's see how long I can keep that up!

My story, a lifetimes of a woman's sexual words, is coming along nicely and some of the stuff is actually pretty good- or so I think anyway! Get in touch if you'd like to test-read some! :-)

NaNoWriMo

Another week, another Sunday! Here is my sinfulsunday flashfiction entry for this week!

Unfortunately I have not written as much as I wanted to in the last days, but (re)discovering NaNoWriMo has really inspired me to make a proper start on a novel. I just finished a 1000 word outline today and can't wait to get started on the first of November!
